Model Introduction
Sea Ray's Sport series serves as a good introduction to the product line. The 205 Sport is a good all-around day boat with plenty of open deck space. It comes with enough standard power to tow boarders or skiers, and the boat can be customized by adding options like a wakeboard tower and SIRIUS Satellite Radio and by choosing from three cockpit layouts.

Construction
The Sea Ray 205 Sport starts with a gelcoat applied to the mold, followed by chop and a solid fiberglass laminate (no coring) in the hull. Preformed foam stingers are encapsulated and tabbed to the hull with fiberglass, an excellent structural means of reinforcing the hull. The one-piece cockpit/deck is bonded to the stringers using an adhesive. A shoebox hull-to-deck joint is fastened with self-tapping screws drilled into a composite backing strip. A caulking compound seals the joint. The transom is cored with plywood"the important thing here for the manufacturer is to make sure the sterndrive cutout through the plywood is sealed and kept dry to prevent plywood end-grain water absorption and eventual rot. Sea Ray makes the point that the dense plywood absorbs vibrations better than foam, and it also saves the builder money.

Hull Design
The 205 Sport has a modified vee, hard-chine hull with 20 ° of transom deadrise.

Walkthrough
The 205 Sport has a molded swimplatform with an exposed (no hatch) 3-step boarding ladder. There's a handle to grab onto when climbing up the ladder out of the water. The test boat had the jump seat cockpit layout option with a back-to-back seat that lays out flat to serve as a lounge to port, and a pedestal seat to starboard at the helm.
