Model Introduction
The Sea Ray 185 Sport is the builder's second-smallest bowrider offering and is a fine runabout for a first-time boater. It offers all the essentials for a day on the water"a boarding ladder, ski and wakeboard storage, room for sunning, and enough power to get the job done. Also available is a wakeboard version with tower and towboat features. There's also an outboard-powered version of the 185 with three seating configurations.

Construction
The Sea Ray 185 Sport starts with a gelcoat applied to the mold, followed by a skin coat of chop to help prevent osmotic blistering, then by a solid glass laminate (no coring) in the hull. Pre-formed foam stingers are encapsulated and tabbed to the hull with fiberglass, an excellent structural means of reinforcement. The one-piece cockpit/deck is bonded to the stringers using an adhesive. A shoebox hull-to-deck joint is fastened with self-tapping screws drilled into a high-density composite backing strip. A caulking compound seals the joint. The transom is cored with plywood, and the deck is cored with balsa to add stiffness at light weight.

Hull Design
The 185 Sport has a modified vee bottom with 19° of deadrise at the transom.

Walkthrough
Cockpit
Back aft, a well-designed and generously proportioned molded-in swimplatform with a bolt-on extension provides plenty of room for staging wakeboard and skiing, or for swimming from the boat, and a 3-step ladder is included. The cockpit is built of a one-piece fiberglass liner bonded to the hull, and the upside for the owner is ease of maintenance since there are no cracks or crevices to attract dirt and debris, and squeaks and rattles are eliminated. The Sea Ray 185 Sport has a full-beam bench seat aft and a pair of swivel/sliding seats forward at the helm and to port. Aft over the engine compartment is a sunpad.
