Model Introduction
The Cobalt 222 Bowrider has a number of features designed to meet ever-evolving customer tastes (stainless-trimmed rubber foot rests and push button switches) and needs (lots of storage and cooler capacity under the deck and inside the forward consoles). For loyal Cobalt aficionados, the 222 replaces the 226, with the new boat adding a little freeboard, which results in a higher cockpit coaming (it's a full 32 in. deep inside) and more internal volume for all that storage capacity.

The Cobalt 222 Bowrider is the third smallest bowrider (there are also 20- and 21-ft. models) in the builder's lineup, however, the same basic components and construction materials go into the 222 as in Cobalt's larger models. A high quality, thoughtfully designed boat, it serves as a good introduction to the line. The boat is rated for 12 passengers or a total of 1,800 lbs. of passengers and gear.

Construction
After the gelcoat is sprayed on the mold, a vinylester-based Zycon barrier coat that's about the same thickness as the gelcoat (22 mils.) goes on the bottom (to protect against blistering) and the sides (to reduce print through). The bottom is a solid fiberglass laminate, while SprayCore (80 mils.) is used on the sides to further prevent print through. The hull is supported by a network or high-hat hollow stringers that are flanged and bonded to the hull with an extremely strong adhesive. Marine-grade plywood bulkheads are tabbed to the hull and the stringers. The single-piece deck liner goes on next, attached to the hull with a shoebox joint, with stainless steel self-tapping screws at every foot into a strip of pressure-treated plywood.
