An all-day boat with a lot to offer, the 256 manages to stand out in a crowded, highly competitive field.

Construction
The Chaparral 256 SSI Bowrider starts with gelcoat and then a 30-mil. coat of vinylester sprayed on to help prevent osmotic blistering. The bottom laminate is solid fiberglass, starting with chop and then fiberglass reinforcements. In the hull sides, there is a 90-mil. layer of SprayCore"this spray-on bulking agent helps prevent print-through of the follow-on fiberglass reinforcement to the gelcoat surfaces, which is especially important with colored hulls. The hull sides are built of solid fiberglass laminates over the SprayCore. The transom is a solid sandwich composite of fiberglass and pressure-treated plywood. Chaparral takes care to prevent bulkhead-edge hard spots in the hull skin by padding the plywood edges with strips of 1/2-in. NydaCore coring, and then tabbing the bulkheads to the hull.

The bottom of the hull is supported by a pressure-treated plywood stringer grid network that's tabbed to the bottom, then is fully encapsulated in fiberglass. The one-piece cockpit deckliner is in turn bonded to the structural grid, making for a solidly constructed hull. The hull-to-deck joint is fastened mechanically using self-tapping screws through the shoebox joint, which is backed up by a strip of pressure-treated plywood for improved screw grip and retention. Structural bulkheads at the anchor locker and forward of the engine room are also fiberglassed to the hull-to-deck joint area.
